Yeah I was going to link the Brad Neely’s Washington video, too. Still cracks me up.

CNR is the new Chuck Norris!

Weird Al finally does The White Stripes! Awesome.

He’s also parodying the rock band, The White Stripes.

I appreciate how detailed it all is, but there’s a sort of obnoxious vibe that I can’t really put my finger on.

Maybe cause there’s so much literal illustration of the lyrics, or maybe I just subconsciously relate the Jibjab style to presidential political crap.

Honestly, I liked the Skipper Dan video better.

How does the Neely~Washington short compare at all? Completely different, both fun and good in their own right. I like the weird al short, you can put yourself into it, which is pretty neat. The ad at the end is a little much, but I guess they’ve got to market these things somehow.

Like everything else in my life It seems i didn’t even realize who Charles Nelson Reilly was until I connected him with something animated.

Charles was one of Bluth’s favorites starting out as Carface’s henchman Killer in All Dogs go to Heaven and landing a bigger role as Hunch the owl (another henchman character…go figure) in Rock-a-doodle. He made a quick appearance in A Troll in Central Park (shudder) before moving on to work for other studios.

He made little cameos in Disney’s Goof Troop and Spacecats before scoring a reappearing role as The Dirty Bubble in Spongebob Squarepants. He voiced the Dirty Bubble right up until his death in 2007.

This reminds me a lot of “What would Brian Boitano do?” from the South Park movie, in as much as it’s about a famous figure doing outrageous things.

I hadn’t heard of Reilly either…until I looked him up on Wikipedia and realized I’d heard his voice in a lot of stuff! A weird choice for parody for Weird Al…I’d expect nothing less from him!

The video is also a great parody of the White Stripes. Sounds like he’s mocking their song “Icky Thump” in particular.

I really liked it, and I think the inclusion of the motion/video parts in it, took it to another level!

Oh you kids who don’t know of CNR’s non-animated career.
He was also a principle character in the Sid & Marty Kroft show, “Lidsville” (about the land of anthropomorphic hats), as well as many recurring characters on various sitcoms. But he was likely most famous for his regular appearances on game shows like Hollywood Squares and Match Game (who’s host, Gene Rayburn, gives CRN a daily piggy-back ride in the video).
If you ever put him in the same room tother with Rip Taylor and Paul Lynde, it would be a sign of the apocalypse.

And, if you’re really an old fart, Charles Nelson Reilly was the star of the sixties broadway musical, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

I don’t know…it seems like such an uncalled for drive by shooting of Charles Nelson Riley. I thought he was a pretty witty guy and one of the few gay characters on TV in a time when you weren’t allowed to be gay on TV. I’d like it better if he was alive and endorsed it. I enjoyed C.N.R.’s turn on the Larry Sanders Show, where there too, he was used as a punch line, but then he turned it around on them.

“Uncle Croc’s Block” was a Filmation part live action show that starred CNR. You might think that Filmation together with CNR could make plutonium dance. It just about did. The only thing is, it should have been done on ice.

I think it’s time for the Jib-Jab FEATURE FILM.

Don’t forget Waylon Flowers and Alan Sues. Great, I’ve probably overloaded Wikipedia’s server from all the inquiries by those under the age of 35.

The Simpsons used a CNR reference frequently in later seasons when a plan backfires, characters (especially Homer) would try to loosen their shirt collars with a hulhull-like murmur, CNR’s trademark action, if you’ve seen any of his work.

I think it’s a great send-up for a performer that deserves to be remembered today.

And if you’re just a semi-old fart, you might remember his role as “Claymore Gregg” in the TV adaptation of “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir”. I enjoyed watching that show mornings on my local VHF station when I was a kid.

He had a long career as an actor/director in New York. I met him once and he was much taller and more solidly built than he appeared on-screen.

Loved CNR on Match Game, but he will always be the Bic Banana to me. I loved this.
