Robbert Bobbert is a character and album created by Robert Schneider of The Apples in Stereo. The new music video, We R Super Heroes, was directed by Puny Entertainment. Super Hero Guest Artists include: Jordan Crane (The Clouds Above, NON, Uptight), Gene Ha (Top 10, The Fourty Niners. DC Cover Artist), Craig McCracken (Powerpuff Girls, Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends), Chris McDonnell (Meat Haus, Vice Comics), Mark Todd (Whatcha Mean, What’s a Zine?) and Todd Webb (Tuesday Moon, Nickelodeon Magazine).

Amazing fun. Is there any way to find out who made what character on the screen? There’s so many and they go by so quick.

Isaac says:

The monsters are nice, but there’s very little animation. Do audiences really find the skew-resize-rotate-flip mechanics bearable?

This sounds like a typical Apples in Stereo song. That’s a good thing in my book.

Now I can’t get Stan Freberg out of my head. Turn off-a the bubble-a machine-a!

Love it.

Dapper Jim says:

A very interesting project from PUNY, kudos to their imaginative skills. Flash animation never ceases to impress me, specially when smaller groups work together in something like this.

A reminder to Isaac, this is done in order to save money that could be spent on other things. This works perfectly well with smaller animation groups that do not posses the time or the budget to do full on 24 frame animations rather than your usual shortcuts.

Isaac says:

It’s more of a style. You can animate on twos or on threes or even do something that resembles an animatic, if you want to save time and money. When I see a character squash-and-stretch like it’s actually a flat rectangle, or an arm swinging like it’s a plank of wood nailed to a wall, it shatters my suspension of disbelief, and the character becomes lifeless and fake. Animation isn’t just moving things around.
