JibJab’s latest political music video premiered last night on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and it’s another winner. Co-Director Evan Spiridellis tells us:

I think you’ll notice that we significantly upped the production value while trying to remain true to the original thing that made This Land work - funny collage heads. It was also really important to us was not to repeat ourselves so rather than the tit-for-tat that was in This Land we wanted to make this a true character piece and give each player a verse to try and define themselves. (It was a real challenge trying to sum up each candidate with only 5 lines!)

Evan and Gregg have also written a great production blog on the making of this particular film.

Mike says:

Man oh man talk about production value. Good job, the part with money being thrown on the stairs surprised me.

And the poses on Obama were amazing, I almost forgot it was a cut-out.

P.C. Unfunny says:

I just saw this one and it’s of the best Jib-Jab films yet. The animation was very impressive. I really needed that after soiling my eyes with WALL-E.

Incredible animation. And really funny too :-)

Roman says:

very nice. glad to see an even handed, fun satire.

James N. says:

Wow… just wow. I literally started cracking up when Obama started singing about “change change change” :-P

And the animation is great. It’s amazing how far they’ve come since the original “This Land”.

It’s also hard to believe this was animated in FLASH of all things…

Uh-oh, the Jib Jab juggernaut is poised to take over the world along with their vaunted profit-making model for Internet animation, ta’ boot. The design and overall attention to detail has been upgraded; the voice acting, except for McCain who they’ve chosen a General Patton intonation, is exceptional. It’s almost scary. They’ve lost their innocence for sure. I’m concerned that there may be subliminal ad insertion lurking in there somewhere.

is it too much to ask for us to take politics seriously? especially these days

K.Borcz says:

Nice to wake up to this morning on the Today show.

Gobo says:

The JibJab guys have polished their house style about as far as it can be polished. It’s amazing how shiny their stuff looks… and that they’re still doing it well.

jon: I think satire is a valid form of art.

PC: “soiling your eyes”? Uh huh.

This one has been all over MSNBC today

Patrick Wiggins says:

Jib-Jab is the gold standard of parody.

07/16/08  4:48pm

The animation is pretty awesome and the jokes are spot on.

Good ol’ Jib Jab.

Tom Pope says:

Almost worth watching again just to hear Ah-nold at the end.

07/16/08  5:09pm

JibJab always delivers the goods and the Leno imprimatur helps their cause.

Steve Gattuso says:

PC’s eyes are easily soiled, being made of equal parts isinglass and rubber cement.

Jib Jab does it again. This should burn up servers for a while with views and downloads.

A Longtime Observer says:

Saw some clips on CNN today and excuse my internet lingo, but Obama in Bambi/fairytale land is made of win. I love it! And a “sterilized” color scheme for McCain was a good call in terms of contradicting the candidates.

07/16/08  7:56pm

Jib Jab does great animation, but the satire is about as blandly “evenhanded” as Mad Magazine circa 1966.

07/17/08  9:26am
Chuck R. says:

Nice looking, but I got more laughs per second from “This Land..”

I’m with you, Tom, that was a great Ahnold voice. The funniest part of the film.

Jon, you’ll get your wish. With the first black candidate running, this election is going to absolutely suffer from a lack of levity and well-aimed satire. Ask The New Yorker.

07/17/08  10:57am
GhaleonQ says:

Huh. Not to purposely dissent, but I haven’t found any of theirs, from 2004 on, funny. It’s like Jay Leno putting on a popsicle stick puppet show.

07/17/08  4:48pm
P.C. Unfunny says:

GahleonQ: Not even Big Box Mart ? I thought that was a hilarous poke at Wal-Mart.

07/18/08  12:29am
Darren says:

Although the quality of the animation is amazing, I’d hardly call this a genuine satire. This is more using a generic cynical tone, whilst keeping it so neutral so as to try to appeal to as many viewers as possible. Nothing really new, and nothing truly bold. Great animation, nonetheless.

07/18/08  6:01am
William Chappel says:

OH MY GOD FLASH I HATE IT I HATE IT

07/18/08  9:31am

I notice that most “Flash” these days isn’t really Flash but streamed video played by the Flash plugin. Probably very little of that originated in Flash.

Nice animation. Lame song. A Dylan song may be a weak choice for parody. Dylan wasn’t the tunesmith that Guthrie (or whoever really wrote “This Land is Your Land”) was.

07/18/08  7:24pm
Kyle says:

Man I love the springy-ness of Jib Jab’s work.

09/16/08  2:31pm
Norwegian living in Denmark says:

My favourite along with This Land. I like their fun animation and the fact they are neutral (at least these two).
