“A Family Man” By The Rauch Brothers

Just in time for Father’s Day: A Family Man is the latest animated documentary short from the Rauch Brothers, and the nonprofit oral history project StoryCorps. The Rauch Brothers’ work combines intelligence, heart and humor in the space of a few minutes–a rare feat in animation. Character design is by Tim Rauch, storyboard by Stephen DeStefano and BG layout and painting by Bill Wray.

Well, that was a delight to watch. The animation/backgrounds were very well done and the story was sweet.

I went to to the StoryCorps site and there are 3 other animated shorts; I recommend watching them, they’re very touching.

    • Deaniac

Actually I take that back, there are 11 additional animated shorts. My mistake.

It is a great project and it probably goes without saying that it is a great way to let people tell their stories.

This one is a nice one to watch. And, I echo what Amid wrote, for the amount of time it runs it is a whole lotta anecdote. Well told!

    What an awesome project.

Whew! These Rauch Brothers vignettes are simply amazing in their ability to evoke a strong emotional response without being manipulative. The next time someone mentions that animation is for kids I’ll send them to the StoryCorps website for a reality check.

I think these Rauch Bros. StoryCorps animation is the best thing going today.
We often clamour for mature and sophisticated visions in animation and default to being edgy. These show there can be mature animation without being the extreme opposite of kiddie fare.

Damn that was good. You could tell it was gonna be, just from the still.

Seems like the longest time since I’ve seen animation with this kind of sincerity.
