I like how the portraits were basically taken from the Disney short “Education for Death”

How badly can one man want to be John K.? I believe this video may answer that question.

Is this supposed to be funny? Can’t see how. It’s a big Ren and Stimpy rip off ( with a sniff of Mary Blair art in it). The only good thing about it is the choice of colours.

I thought this was hilarious if a bit disjointed. Nice expressions and animation. Obviously inspired by Ren and Stimpy but with an individual take on it. I love the insanity.

To say “it was inspired by Ren and Stimpy” is being kind. It’s a good job, but not very original.

I like this cartoon! It is very funny and the artwork is very good! There are some little things in the animation who could be better, but I’m sure that his later cartoons will be better(I hope he will do more!!!)!

I saw some of Makinitas artwork on Deviantart and I can see that he is an hard worker and he have lots of fun to do it.:)
His style looks pretty much like Spumco and yes, he is a big Spumco fan(like me). I don’t like to hear when people say”this is an rip off from XYZ!” Even John K. was inspired by other cartoonists and cartoons to get his style. Lots of artists do that.

Don’t look at style, watch this cartoon and enjoy!:)

You all keep comparing it to John K. but stylistically it reminded me much more of “Coconut Fred on Fruit Salad Island” which is just a rip off of SpongeBob. I wish they’d left that deleted scene in there. That’s the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time!

Wow, people complain that there is not enough truly “cartoon-y” stuff out there any more, but when an independent animator comes along has a good crack at cartoon-y animation, all you can say is “John K Rip off”? Give him a break, he’s made dozens of short films (admittedly, I don’t think this is his best so far though, that goes to ‘Mingy Puss’) all by himself and he’s clearly got a talent for this stuff. Can’t you guys ever be happy and just say…you know, “Well done, good job”?

I’ll have more of that please, with lots of variations.

Some of us just can’t seem to contemplate that. I would say this was pretty interesting for once, though I felt it was slow in some parts. Of course timing is very important in animation, but to have bad timing could be grading on the nerves.

And yeah, I kinda like to see some more WWII references in this, I did take a whole class on that back in high school, and it would’ve been interesting if the Jews had been depicted as fruits and veggies (as someone hinted over at YouTube).

This does answer a historical ‘what if?’ - it provides a good idea of what a John K. short might have looked like if Filmation had given him his head, then made him use their artists and production system, minus, of course, the stock. Makinitas is learning, like Chris Farley learned from John Belushi. Imitation is the beginning of creativity, and he did pick distinctive role models. At least he’s not tryin’ to emulate the Incredible World of DIC. Chuck Jones once wrote that every artist must get the first ten thousand bad drawings out of his (or her) system. The mixed blessing of the web means now everyone gets to see those first ten K efforts, then rip them from the comfort of their own laptops. All you laptop critics, let’s see you do a better, funnier short if you hate this one so much.

Meh. I lost interest in the story halfway through. The timing seems really sluggish. Not just slow…sluggish.

Great expressions and poses, though. I think the film’s strength is in its designs.

Makinita is one serious animator. Great expressions and poses, like Anne said. I also agree with GagaMan’s comment about people who are hungry for some real cartoons, and are quick to bash those individuals trying to make real cartoons. I really enjoyed this short, and the one posted on CHF.
