Frog in a Suit by Joe Murray

That’s a clip from Joe Murray’s Frog in a Suit, a new short film that doubles as a pilot. Here’s the set-up:

Peete Moss has just moved to Croakville ( a town full of toads) with his family. Croakville is a town on the fast track, with Industrialist Harvey Croak running everyone crazy. Peete Moss tries to fit in, sports a suit, and tries to “run with the bulls”. In this clip, he has a run in with a local coffee shop, and offends the love of his life, Lilly Patt, who is the local school teacher.

Murray, who is the creator of Rocko’s Modern Life and Camp Lazlo, has a book (with a really long title) coming out later this year: Creating Animated Cartoons with Character: A Guide to Developing and Producing Your Own Series for TV, the Web, and Short Film. He also writes an online journal.

Looking forward to this one! I enjoy the timing, too.

Not a massive fan of the production in this one but love the design and it is funny. With a budget behind it, this could be excellent. I hope he gets it off the ground and moving.

Looking forward to the book too, even though I bought the ebook. Joe Murray is someone I have nothing but admiration for and his insights are worth a lot to me. I wish him every success with it.

Nice little short. Thanks for the 411 on the book and the blog. ;)

Didn’t really care for it. Joe’s a better designer than a writer.

I love Joe’s stuff, it’s nice to see something unique

Oh man…coffee….story of my life. Ha ha ha! :)

Murray’s work is fun to watch, his humor is really mundane and fresh at the same time- conversational animation, be it Metalpocolypse, Beavis and Butthead, South Park… it all started with the Peanuts Specials in the sixties, but oh how it has evolved!… AND DE-volved, all for OUR entertainment.

Pretty charming. I’d been hoping Joe Murray would try more adult stuff along the lines of Rocko again. Camp Lazlo was a little too safe I feel. Maybe Adult Swim can fund an episode or two and see how it goes…

Looks great. So did he animate it himself or how did he get it done? It seems low-budget but intelligently used low budget. I’m trying to do something similar and I wonder what his process was.

Nice, Ive been waiting for something else Rocko-esk too. agreed about Lazlo being too safe. Not that Im even asking for adult swim like material, just something on the level of Rocko is fine with me. something doesnt talk down to kids, but everyone can enjoy.

hell yeah that was awesome..I watched it twice

The guy loves putting twins and triplets into his cartoons which is just hilarious to me. This animation isn’t going to win any awards, but I found it really charming and I hope it gets made into a show somehow.

Love it! It a return to the bigheads!

  • Josh

*sniff* I miss Rocko, hopefully this captures some of that previous energy that I loved so much.

“Lily, I wanna make tadpoles with you.”

Good stuff. Love Murray’s easy going style.

This looks great! Hope it gets made.
