Love Meets in the Stars by Chris Johnson

Nashville-based animator Chris Johnson created this piece. The story behind it is sweet:

“It is inspired by Yuri Norstein, Lotte Reiniger, The Science of Sleep, and many other things, but more than anything by the girl I am going to marry and our special relationship. There is plenty of symbolism in the short, but the theme I’m getting to is where one’s heart is. She lives in Mexico which is far from where I live in Tennessee, and I’d go to the moon to get her.”

Sadly, I’m still waiting for somebody to create a cartoon about how special I am.

Cool Looking piece! With a little story this could easilly be turned into a seven or eight minute short. However, if Chris takes this any farther than a portfolio piece he probably ought to check out the music rights. I think the selection he has is from the Amelie soundtrack. I’m assuming that he probably couldn’t afford to pay for it if he ever had to.

If we learned anything from Nina Paley’s problems it is that you should always check on trademark and copyrights for music and images before you get too far into production. When in doubt, check out the stock libraries at places like DeWolfe.
