“Pac Man: The Movie” by James Farr

If Hollywood were to take Pac Man seriously and produce a live action blockbuster movie of it – it would probably feel like this. Multi-hyphenate animator James Farr made this faux trailer for Pac-Man The Movie (The Fan Film) at the coolest production house in Tulsa, Oklahoma: Steelehouse.

  • THat was cool.

  • Michel Van

This short film is so cool !
i wanna play again, but run out of coins ;-)

  • Royce

Please don’t give Micheal Bay any more ideas…

  • Oliver

Well, it’s not like this is any more inherently ridiculous than blowing $200m on ‘Battleships: The Movie’, is it?

When Hollywood finally runs out of (video) games, what next?

    ‘M&Ms: The Movie’?
    ‘Post-It Notes: The Movie’?

    • R. Araya

      … or “SUV’s Big Adventure” (tiddy-boom)

  • Isaac

Even for an independent short the acting and writing were atrocious.

  • Jeff

Here’s a couple other different “Pac-Man” movie trailers.

  • Scarabim

I’d…I’d actually go to see this…

  • JmWalter

That girl with the piercing made the silly live action bits worth it.

  • Kurt Blintz

Unbelievable production values. Hire this guy!

  • SpanielDayLewis

I wish they’d been more creatively stupid. Whenever they adapt stuff like this they only keep the slightest hint of what it originally was. A modern PacMan blockbuster would almost certainly be about a guy in some kind of hi-tech yellow robot suit fighting ghost aliens. They’d definitely have a cherry joke in there though.

  • Clint H.

    I’d see it. :D

  • Neato keen

  • Deaniac

Hey, Steelehouse is located in the same city as my college! Looks like I’ve found a potential internship option in the future. ;)

Oh yeah, that clip was brilliant. If this was a legitimate movie, I would watch the HELL out of it.

  • Albert

Interesting but I hope they never, EVER even think of doing anything like this. This would basically be a multi- billion dollar giant arcade machine to ply PACMAN on. At least Battleship could squeeze in a plot better then a something like this

  • Tom

Well, they did announce a new Pac-Man TV show a couple years ago. Don’t know if that counts for something.

    • Chris Sobieniak

      Good god!!!

      • More like, “Good god, nooooooooooooooo!!!”

  • I honestly cannot tell if this was intended as a deadpan cutting satire of overblown, overproduced, self-serious, bloated Hollywood SFX fests based on video games and old tv shows…or was meant as a sincere pitch to make this film for real. What’s more — to my amazement — I don’t care which one it is. It’s done with such sincerity and commitment and sense of fun that I would happily watch the whole movie.

  • Woah- as a long time reader of CB, I’m shocked and humbled I have something I worked on featured on here. Being an animator himself, James was a blast of a director to work with, but you guys should know that most of the killer CG work is in no small part to Nathan Glemboski! Thanks Jerry for the recognition and kind words :)

Does anyone remember when Six Flags licensed Pac-Man characters? It was after H.R. Pufnstuf but before the Looney Tunes (early to mid 1980s). The costumed characters and live shows were so weird (in a good way).

It’s fun how such a simple character spawned so many iterations across so many mediums over the years. (HB’s “Christmas Comes to Pacland” is probably my favorite and biggest guilty pleasure for its sheer absurdity.)

  • This was a blast to watch!! :D

My only beef was that 1) Pac Man talked

    2) Instead of plowing through the ghosts, I wanted to see him EAT em!!

Im down for a pac man flick for some odd reason :)

  • victoria

I liked the designs of the ghosts…..thats about it, but I guess it can’t be any more dumb than the Garbage Pail Kids movie.

  • That was a lot of fun. I see a bright future for this creative team.

  • Randy

I’d go see it…..that was damn COOL!

  • Wait, where are the potty jokes as Pac-Man was around New York City? You know, like chasing off a dog that wants to pee on him.
