Bart Simpson Grows Old and Dies, Over and Over Again

Springfield Eternal

Bart Simpson grows old and dies, over and over again, in Springfield Eternal, a conceptual piece by Philippe Blanchard. In a world of quick cuts and constantly shifting camera angles, the intense focus on a single animated character creates a surprisingly poignant viewing experience.

    More like decomposing

Made me think of an animated film I once saw, probably one of those paint-on-glass techniques where a guy was shown aging in much the same way, though the payoff here of Bart’s skeletal remains falling apart was kinda amusing!

That was interesting, but why wouldn’t he get taller?

why hasnt he gotten taller in the last 20 years?

        Maybe because he’s a cartoon character…

        Just saying.

When will people realise that those spikes on Bart’s head are his hair and not part of his head-shape.

when will people learn that cartoons don’t play by our rules

Die, Bart, Die. Its German for the Bart, the.

Meanwhile, somewhere out there, actual entertaining animation is being overlooked

For extra fun, scrub the playhead back and forth! I did feel my pulse quicken along with his skateboard clacking on the cement.

Boy this show has really gone downhill!

Pretty stupid. He’s going to age but he’s not going to grow. He must have Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome.

I liked this a lot but I’m not surprised at the bitter comments. Artists and animators seem to have a surplus of schadenfreude. Create something interesting and the world will beat a path to your door too.

(Although, I was a bit nonplussed that he kept the spikes on his head as he decayed.)
