Trailer for Jean François by Tom&Bruno

After graduating from French animation school Gobelins, Tom Haugomat and Bruno Mangyoku partnered up and became the directing duo Tom&Bruno. They are currently repped by Cube Creative and have been working on a short film called Jean François, the trailer for which can be seen above. The piece looks beautiful; it’s a fusion of anime filmmaking techniques and graphically inventive character design that wouldn’t look out of place in an Estonian animated short. Can’t wait to see the finished product. The filmmakers have a blog with artwork from the film.

I’ve been waiting all my life for someone to animate a POV shot of diving into a lap pool.

I never realized that until seeing this clip, BRAVO!

I dont’ know where the french get this “design sensibility” but this is very awesome!

It’s almost comic book like, with live action.

Congrats Tom&Bruno! I want to move to Paris now.

Definitely don’t see the “anime” in this, but that’s okay, there’s enough anime influence out there already. Hooray for innovative styles!

So so so so amazing and inspiring…so wonderful. Just so wonderful. Let’s mourn the passing of Cartoon Network by moving to Europe.
