“Venus” By Tor Fruergaard (NSFW)

Tor Fruergaard‘s graduation film Venus is billed as an “erotic comedy,” but it’s a surprisingly sweet and sensitive portrayal of a couple resorting to extreme measures to reignite the spark in their relationship. Created at the National Film School of Denmark in 2010, Venus won the animation prize at Slamdance last January, and has screened in numerous festivals including Annecy.

I guess this is considered an erotic comedy in the sense that it wasn’t an erotic tragedy?

Quite funny actually…I enjoyed it. The claymation was nicely done, though some twisted part of me was waiting for Goliath to poke his head around one of the doorways and call out “Davey?”

Dude, I’m totally moving to Denmark.

    Great stuff!

To be honest I kind of found how “European” the most humorous bit of the whole peice. Stark. No real soundtrack. Desolate. It’s just missing a b/w photo of the director against a barren ice land at the end.

Anyways, so that superficial critique aside kudos to the story for really getting me involved. I was pulled in despite my initial reservations. Good stuff man.

Unfortunately, then it had that easy way out wrap-up of “man I was hurt but it was hot” ending… wtf? So, they’re creepy, go to “spice up” their sex life, man has change of heart realizing this isn’t really what he wants then sees his partner getting it and then problem solved…

I get it, he doesn’t see her as desirable, but when he sees her desired it opens his eyes. We get it still…

Idk, something felt off at the ending. Either way, great stuff for making me ponder this, obviously his film did it’s job. Kudos.
