Cartoon Brew is Eight Years Old

Eight year old birthday card

Cartoon Brew is eight years old today, and for what it’s worth, that makes us the longest-continually operating animation blog on the Internet. We had no idea what would happen when we launched the Brew in 2004, but we’re proud that it’s lasted as long as it has and that you’ve allowed us to be a voice for the animation community. In the past few years, we’ve launched new initiatives like CB Biz and the Cartoon Brew Student Animation Festival, but we’ve got even bigger things in store for this year, including a major site overhaul.

Whether you’ve been with us since the pre-Brew era when we published our thoughts as Cartoon Research and Animation Blast or you’ve joined us more recently, we have a simple message to our readers. We want to thank each of you very sincerely for reading Cartoon Brew. We know that you have many choices today for animation news, and we’re honored and humbled that so many of you have chosen the Brew as one of your sources. The Cartoon Brew team spends large portions of time working on the site to keep the content fresh and everything running smoothly, and we intend to continue doing that for a long time to come.

Jerry Beck and Amid Amidi,
The Brewmasters

UPDATE: Our friends at the French animation blog Catsuka remind us that they’re twelve years old. So that make us the second longest-continually operating animation blog.

Happy Birthday Cartoon Brew! You’re my favourite website and you’ve been my homepage for the last three years!

  • Laurel

Congrats on eight years, and here’s to at least eight more! I never let a morning go by without checking the Brew, and haven’t for many years now.

  • http://www.fooksie.com Fooksie

Happy Birthday, Cartoon Brew! Every morning I check the site, not knowing if I will chuckle, roll my eyes, or become angry, at what I read.
    Keep up the great work!

  • http://inspectorcleuzo.blogspot.com Sandro Cleuzo

    Congratulations Amid and Jerry.
Cartoon Brew is a great source of news and information for the animation lover and I myself visit it at least a couple of times per day.
Happy anniversary and thank you for your dedication!

  • Old Man Father Time

    You are welcome! Congratulations!

  • http://www.catsuka.com Tsuka

Happy Birthday Cartoon Brew ! Don’t worry, you’re not so old, Catsuka is almost 12 years old :-]

    • The Brewmasters

      Noted in the post. =)

      • http://www.catsuka.com/ Tsuka

Oh, thanks ! I’m a bit embarassed, it was more for the wink to another old webmasters ;-) Cartoonbrew is indeed the oldest animation blog I know. Catsuka, as a website, is younger than AWN and others ^^. But now internet is more than sites and blogs. Brew is not just a blog or a website today, and this is awesome. It’s very cool to see you developping new activities. Sometimes I think that there’s no limit ! Catsuka has also other faces now, and as for you, I never planned anything originally. A sort of exciting empirical development. Long life to all animation web places !

Many happy returns Amid And Jerry . And many years to come .
The Brew is a great resource and gives me a well needed chuckle from time to time.

    8 year-olds, Dude.

Congrats! I really enjoy the blog. Here is to many more years.

  • http://www.animationinsider.net/ Aaron B.

Congrats on the anniversary. I remember those formative years… seems just like yesterday.

Is running the Brew nowadays more like a full-time job (second, full-time job?)? Did you originally think, “It’s a blog. I’ll just check every other day or so…”

    • http://www.cartoonbrew.com/author/amid amid

Aaron – Jerry and I both do plenty of other projects, but I think I can speak for both of us when I say that Cartoon Brew takes up as much time as a typical full-time job would. I’d say it’s been that way for at least the last 3 years of the Brew.

  • http://reghartt.ca/cineforum/ Reg Hartt

Happy Birthday and many more to come.

  • http://www.sunilgovindaraju.com sunil govindaraju

hey Congratulations! please keep up the good work!!!
p.s: CB is the only website I check out for animation news and stuff.

  • http://she-thing.blogspot.com Caty

My dad has been always commenting ever since sukeband-shaneglines-drawingboard-animationblast came out from the past, therefore, I’ve always been curious to what was going on- but sincerely speaking I myself began strictly following this brew a few months ago x) Keep posting crazy stuff, Brewmaster Duo!

    • The Brewmasters

Wow, a second-generation Cartoon Brew reader. That’s AMAZING!!!

      • http://she-thing.blogspot.com Caty

Hi Brewmaster! I didn’t notice your reply, sorry! :D Thanks, but being a second generation is TEERRIBLE!! You can’t watch the past because it already happened, but you can’t admire the present because everything’s so repetitive and horrible- so you have to watch the past! I bet you didn’t feel like this before (or at least not as strong as it feels now X))

Anyway…… congrats, BMs! I wanted to share some videos and stuff, but I think you haven’t received them yet- can I post here, in the topics?

  • http://artnote.blog.com Stephen Persing

    Happy birthday, Brew!

Congrats! It’s hard to keep a site for so many years, and it only could be done by passionate people like you. Thank you for your daily source of inspiration, awe, beauty, debate, joy and … well, many many things.

  • http://animationanomaly.com Charles Kenny

Congratulations guys. Eight years is an eternity on the internet :)

You’ve done a fine job of bringing together fans and professionals alike.

Here’s to the best that’s yet to come.

  • Ju-osh M.

Isn’t eight years old a little too old to still be watching cartoons?

    KIDDING!

    Happy birthday, fellas.

    • http://www.cartoonbrew.com/author/amid amid

We saw a live-action film once but it didn’t do much for us. ;)

      • Rick R.

Yeah.. we saw your comments on John Carter. :p

Seriously though, thank you both for all the news, the animations, the free DVDs from contests, and all your hard work over the years. Cartoon Brew rocks!

  • http://ryanrosendal.blogspot.com Ryan

Hey, I’ve been following you guys since the days of Cartoon Research and Animation Blast. Do I get a sticker or something?

All kidding aside, the reason why Cartoon Brew has stuck around so long is because it’s just a genuinely terrific site. Every day there’s a ton of news or short films to check out and the essays, while controversial, always create a lively and fascinating debate. Here’s to many more years of Cartoon Brew.

Also, I just won a Wizards Blu-ray from you guys. This site’s paying off!

Happy Birthday, Brewers! Still my top visit each and every day. My blog will be 8 years in November – even though I’ve veered off to talk about illustration more or less throughout the last couple of years, I still consider animation as the basis for what I do, day in and day out. Thank you guys for making this happen for me.

  • Kristjan Birnir

Happy Birthday! or should I say happy Brewday!
As fair as my personal experience with Cartoonbrew has been over the years it has been a wonderful experience. I have learned a lot about animation both past and present over the years, that I wouldn’t have without the Brew masters.
