Monday Morning: BIG CONTESTS! BIG PRIZES!
by jerry
October 4, 2009 11:30 am

Don’t say we didn’t warn ya: We will be holding two contests on Monday (10/5) and be giving away a bunch of cool prizes.

Winning both contests require you being the FIRST few people to correctly answer a question about animation, a question somewhat related to the prize. The first contest will be posted at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern and the first prize is a copy of the latest, wonderful Aardman Animation production, Wallace and Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death (courtesy of Lionsgate). The second place winner will receive a copy of David Levy’s vital new book Animation Development (Thanks to Allworth Press). The booby prize third prize is Scooby Doo and the Samurai Sword, the latest direct-to-DVD production from Warner Bros. Animation (hey, they sent me a copy and a gotta give it away to somebody!).

At 11am Pacific Time (2pm, east coast), we will have a second contest question and the first six adults to answer correctly will receive a copy of the new DVD feature, Rob Zombie presents The Haunted World of El SuperBeasto (courtesy Starz Media/Film Roman). This film is for adults only and will require the winners to state they are over 18.

We ask that winners of recent Cartoon Brew contests of the past year not compete, and allow others a chance to win a prize. See you here tomorrow, and good luck to all!

Cyber Fox says:

A caution to those who enter: If you win the DVD of “Wallace & Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death”, your basically getting a Pan & Scan version of the entire film. I suggest trash it and buy the Blu-Ray version of either this or the Complete Collection (which features the original widescreen verison of “A Close Shave” and this latest adventure of Wallace & Gromit)

Grant says:

Sorry, but El Super Beasto is hardly a prize. It’s just awful, and lacks any wit, humour, or entertainment value. And it’s horribly produced.

Sounds like fun!

Grant, I bet it would make a nice beer coaster.

Iain says:

I’m passing on “A Matter of Loaf and Death”, I saw from a DVDTalk review that the DVD version was going to be in cropped fullscreen. I’m hoping Hit Entertainment will, in sometime, give the rights to another studio who might bring the shorts in their best form.

To Cyber Fox: “The original widescreen version of ‘A Close Shave’”? I thought that was going to be wide-cropped for the Blu-Ray.

Matt Sullivan says:

El Superbeasto is filth, pure and simple. There’s nothing “adult” about it. It is in fact the most infantile, nasty, waste of time and money I’ve ever seen. it’s a porno, but of course no one will EVER admit that’s what it is because hey, it’s got Rob Zombie! And a smattering of other pseudo-celebs doing voices.

Whoop-dee-doo. Naked chicks every 2 seconds. Dick fart poop and sex jokes. Oh yeah. They sure have pushed the envelope on how to make a film as offputting as possible. And someone very desperately wanted to be John Kricfalusi, that’s for sure.

Garbage. Just…plain….garbage.

Hey if the prizes are free I ain’t going to complain. Looking forward to competition!

>it’s a porno, but of course no one will EVER admit that’s what it is because hey, it’s got Rob Zombie!

Oh, well, I’ll do that in right now — yeah, it’s a pretty pornographic animation. Or, if it flips your switch, purely, totally, disgustingly, thoroughly up-to-the-source-of-the-drain-pipe pornographic animation.

Now say you were wrong.

(I won’t hold my breath.)

Scooby will always come first in my heart.

10/5/09  7:01am

Man, I hope I win David Levy’s book Animation Development! I could sure use that!

Jonah Sidhom says:

Darn, I’ll be in drawing class during both contests, which is slightly ironic.

@ Matt Sullivan:

“And someone very desperately wanted to be John Kricfalusi, that’s for sure.”

That would be most of John’s original Ren & Stimpy crew that worked on the movie (Carey Yost, Craig Kellman, Chris Reccardi, Lynne Naylor, etc.), doing things nice and Clampett-y, just like John preaches.

In all honesty, I have mixed emotions about this film. I enjoyed some of the humor, but I was kinda thrown off by all of the irrelevant boobs and nudity gags. I felt like if this was going to be pornographic then stop teasing and go all out “Hentai style”, otherwise don’t just throw bouncing boobs in the mix just because you can. Overall, a decent job. Not the best, but enjoyable. I loved the urban feel to it.
