37th Student Academy Award Winners

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the winners of the 37th Annual Student Academy Awards competition, and three shorts shared the prize in the animation category. I’ve linked to two of them which have already been posted online. Congrats to all!

• Departure of Love
Jennifer Bors, Ringling College of Art and Design, Florida

• Dried Up
Isaiah Powers and Jeremy Casper, Kansas City Art Institute, Missouri

• Lifeline
Andres Salaff, California Institute of the Arts

I really enjoyed Lifeline when I saw it on Vimeo earlier this year. Salaff also has a couple of other films available online, like The Deadline and Garuda, which are worth watching. They’re all quite different in tone and style. Andres’ got some serious chops.

Agreed, Andres has some serious game going on in Lifeline and cudos to Kyle with the music and sound design, it really combines well with the story and color. I nice little peice, maybe could use a couple more frames is places, but that’s just my personal bias.

Hope he continues to progress with the Hand Drawn goodness.

Way to go Andres! Very much deserved!

Very impressed with Dried Up. Slow-moving, but not boringly so; the pacing and timing all the way through is really good, better than I ever expect to see from students.

    Nice! Congrats.
