“A Fox Tale” from Supinfocom

A pursued fox is transformed into a very foxy female in A Fox Tale, a beautiful new short made by four students – Thomas Bozovic, Alexandre Cazals, Julien Legay, Chao Ma – at the French super-school Supinfocom Arles. Check it out:

Amazing visual effects. I shudder to think what the film would have been had they applied the same finesse and energy to the animation. Don’t get me wrong, some of the animation was pretty good but some of it, particularly in the first minute or so, was wooden to say the least.

This film has me wondering what the Supinfocom render farm is like.

Great job overall guys. Amazing to see what four people can accomplish. I look forward to seeing your names again.

I think its smart to make demo reels that ape cinematic language and sort of pay homage or imply those ideas of a “story”, and even have consistent characters flopping around, and a continuity of environment, so that it feels more like watching a film. That’s beautiful.

I thought the backgrounds were fantastic–and the fox herself–both as a fox and as a maiden was adorable.

That was amazing. I especially like the crescendo of the battle. Storm attacks and Stone gauntlets. The destruction of the mountain top.And all because of the cunning of the fox who walked away without a scratch.
