Cloudy Titles

Todd Hemker and Soyeon Kim of Yellowshed recently directed the end title sequence for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Hemker discusses the process and shares an animatic in this interview with Art of the Title.

UPDATE: Designer Chris Mitchell, who wasn’t mentioned in the interview above, has written a blog post about his role on the end titles and more details about how the production happened. It’s a good complement to the interview.

and they made it with (shock horror) after effects, how dare they. i must say i was expecting a volley of projectile bile over them not using **cue choir of heavenly angels** sainted and holy “hand-drawn animation”, and “bringing the project to life with the nuance and lushness that only traditional hand-drawn animation can provide” and other such blinkered ill-informed garbage, so i guess this represents some kind of progress.

I love, love, love these titles. Thank you for the links!

After Effects’ layer based user experience pales in comparison to the nuance and lushness of node based digital compositing systems. I pine for the glory days…

Thanks for posting this here! Soyeon is my storyboarding professor at CSULB and one of the sweetest people you could ever know. I’m so happy for both of them.

Seems like it’s the in thing these days to create end title sequences with a lavish storybook style. What I’d like to see is the whole darn production done like this.
