Eight years after it went down for the count for a second time, Celebrity Deathmatch is attempting to get back on its feet at MTV2. The network announced today that it has ordered a pilot, which could potentially lead to a series.

The clay-animated fantasy fight comedy, which pits the famous and infamous against each other in the wrestling ring, is to be “reimagined for a world of social media and hourly Twitter wars” by series creator Eric Fogel (who also created The Head) and Wasteland Entertainment.

The initial series ran for 75 episodes and one special from 1998 to 2002. Celebrity Deathmatch was revived briefly in 2006 before being canceled a second time.

Fogel didn’t participate in the revival because he was working at the time on his short-lived stop-motion celebrity satire Starveillance for E! network.

In recent years, MTV has resurrected both Beavis and Butt-Head and its animation showcase Liquid Television, the latter with limited success.
