It’s a Filmation Show — Where’s the preview of Kirk and Spock playing their guitars?
Fascinating, but highly illogical….
I always loved the fact that not only was Filmation animation BAD, they REUSED bad scenes!
I used to be impressed with Filmation animation when I was a kid. Now it seems that all their good for is adult swim type parodies.

My main memory of Star Trek TAS is that is was the most inanimate animated show I had ever seen. Sometimes when a person was talking they would just show their forehead to avoid animating lips. Or they’d cut to a reaction shot of another person slightly frowning.
I’ll have to stick up for Filmation’s Star Trek here. I’ll admit it is poorly animated but on the whole it’s very well written.
It pretty much captures the regular excitement of the animated show.
The clip demonstrates once again that Gary Sinise was born to play Bones McCoy.
The wooden voices succeed in making the whole thing even more static.
It’s so odd the way they start running from a standing position, with their elbows bent out to the sides and their fists at nipple height. Not just once, but twice in this clip alone, and one time Kirk and Spock do it together. They look like they lost their bunny rabbit costumes.
When I was a kid I was really excited for this show, but I was enrolled in Saturday morning art classes which meant no weekend cartoons for me. I bitched and pissed endlessly about missing this masterpiece. Ha ha! Kids are stupid.
Wow, so J.J. Abrams is irrelevant.
You know, the program may have had limited animation, but at least the look of the characters, the voices, the storylines were spot-on Star Trek, and I have never understood why it has gotten the dissing over the years! I actually believe that it was one of the most wonderful Saturday morning shows ever produced, and I gladly own the DVD set in my collection.
Like Andy Vaughn, I love this cartoon as I loved all things Trek when I was a kid (and still do). I’d watch this over “The Next Generation” any day. And no I don’t live in my Mom’s basement.
Something about the new Trek movie seems so …uh … serious. What I still love about the series and the animated one was how it all seemed to be serious about itself without taking itself too seriously. Can I say serious any more?

I realize that this is meant to be a spoof, but there’s a warning bell in my head saying it’s not a parody, it’s a prophecy:
The plodding dialog, the dead pan delivery, falsetto moments of humor, and an executive with an itch to “improve” the established cannon of a beloved space opera – there’s a creepy feeling of déjà vu at work.
I hope this new Star Trek movie doesn’t turn into the train wreck all three of the Star Wars Prequels were.
Everyone, please… Judge Star Trek TAS as the product of its time!

I have to stand up for TAS as well. A good many of the writers were from the original series. You had all of the original voices, sans Walter Koenig (who still showed up to direct). The stories were almost exactly like stories from the original series in tone and dialogue.
Yes, the animation was typical limited Filmation stuff. Still, the show holds up amazingly well and remains infinitely more entertaining than most television Sci Fi.
Plus, my kid loves it. :)
As for the new film: honestly you can’t tell much from a trailer. A bad movie can have a great trailer (PHANTOM MENACE) and a great film can have a terrible trailer (DONNIE DARKO). Once the film is actually screened, then we’ll know. In the end, it can’t be any worse than the last couple of STAR TREK films.
ALL movies are a product of their time.
“Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness.” At its nadir, Filmation’s writing was actually better than that line.
