Ward Kimball

Christmas at the Kimballs

Ward Kimball

From 1959, Christmas morning at the home of Disney legend Ward Kimball along with his family–wife Betty and children Kelly, John and Chloe. Click on the image for a bigger version. And stay tuned to Cartoon Brew in 2009 to find out about the big Kimball news!

So this is where genius lives? Looks messy.

  • Saturnome

    Big Kimball news?

    Nice paintings.

  • Man, this family could use some Christmas cheer.

  • Everyone looks depressed or sedated. But hip–definitely hip.

  • Two pieces of Kimball news I would value would be an art book devoted to his work and the publication of his diary. However, anything relating to Kimball is worth looking forward to.

  • Gerard de Souza

A cool dad and beatnik kids. Just dig the setting.

  • Katella Gate

Wow, did Ward kept a diary? Now THAT would be worth reading. Better than Samuel Pepys, cause you know it’s got illustrations in the margins.

  • Brad Constantine

What’s that tree made out of? looks like paper mache…This is about the time Ward was being ousted as director on Babes in Toyland..I love the art on the walls. classic 50’s style!! thanx fer sharing…

  • Depressed? Hardly.

I had the pleasure of assisting Ward, and John’s an old friend. Back in the sixties, I was lucky enough to hang out with the Kimballs on weekends.

    You should be so lucky.

  • Pedro Nakama

I like the painting over the fireplace. A caption should read, “How am I going to pay for all this stuff with the money Walt pays me?”

  • Yes, Ward Kimball kept a diary. Apparently quite a detailed one at that.

To read his unedited thoughts about Walt Disney, the other artists he worked with, the strike, thoughts about the various films he was worked on…wow…some interesting insight for sure!

I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting though – I’ve heard the family is in no rush to release the contents, which begs the question why? Too provocative perhaps? We’ll probably never know, but what a read it would be!
