Identifying Great Visual Effects Work: A Short Video Primer

From Variety, a short but excellent video on how to identify great visual effects work. The speakers are two people who would know: vfx supervisors Paul Franklin (Interstellar) and Joe Letteri (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes).

While the end result in visual effects is often more hyper-real than traditional animation, it’s still an art in which believability trumps realism. Says Letteri, “What I look for when I go to judge visual effects are what is the combination of realism and expressiveness—and does that serve the story.”
