The Simpsons was triumphant at the 71st annual Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, winning the animated program category for the first time since 2008. The Emmys honor individual episodes, and the Simpsons episode that won was “Mad About the Toy,” beating out episodes of Big Mouth, Bob’s Burgers, Bojack Horseman, and Adventure Time.

The Simpons has been nominated 28 times for the animated program Emmy, winning 11 times.

In the short-form animated program category, “The Witness,” a short that was part of Netflix’s Love Death & Robots adult anthology series, took the prize. That short also won two additional juried awards for individual achievement in animation; those awards were previously announced. The short’s director, Alberto Mielgo, recently signed on to write and direct an original animated feature for Stampede.

The Primetime Emmys were presented over two evenings last weekend at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The list of winners in the animation and vfx categories can be found below. The full list of nominees in these categories can be found in this earlier story.
