Former Cartoon Network President Christina Miller Named CEO Of ‘Paw Patrol’ Parent Spin Master
Christina Miller, who was president of Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and Boomerang from 2014-’19, has been appointed CEO of Paw Patrol parent company Spin Master Corp.
Miller will assume the new role on July 7 at the Toronto, Canada-headquartered company, replacing outgoing CEO Max Rangel.
Here’s what we know about the management shift:
- Miller has served as an independent director on Spin Master’s board of directors since May 2020. Prior to her role at Cartoon Network, Miller worked for sister company Turner Sports, where she oversaw NBA Digital’s portfolio. She first joined Turner (Warnermedia) in 2005 as senior v-p of Cartoon Network Enterprises, overseeing the network’s consumer products and home video businesses.
- Spin Master owns numerous toy brands, including its reliable PAW Patrol which has aired eleven seasons on Nickelodeon and generated two theatrical features, with a third on the way next year. The company also owns Rubik’s Cube, Etch A Sketch, Bakugan, and Hatchimals, among other brands. It regularly launches new animated series; recent shows include Abby Hatcher, Unicorn Academy, and Vida the Vet.
- In a statement, Miller hinted at a greater focus on animation content and digital apps, which would help buffer the company against the uncertainties of physical toy production in China, which have been affected by U.S. president Donald Trump’s global tariff expansions:
Having been on the board of this company for the past five years I’ve had a front row seat to witness the incredible power of Spin Master’s three creative centers. This is a moment of opportunity – to harness the strength of our iconic brands like PAW Patrol, Rubik’s Cube, and Melissa & Doug, along with our expansive Toca Boca and Piknik digital platforms, with over 70 million active users, and award-winning entertainment studio, to unlock our full potential and lead this next chapter. I’m inspired by what Spin Master has built and excited to work with the talented team to further the company’s legacy through creativity and innovation.
- Spin Master co-founder Ronnen Harary added:
What has always been at the heart of Spin Master’s success is harnessing creativity and innovation to drive impact, shape culture, and fuel growth through stories, characters, and play experiences. We’ve known Christina for more than 20 years and she is a storyteller and brand-builder by nature and will bring her deep experience of balancing art and science in operating franchises, brands and digital platforms at scale to further progress our legacy as creators and disrupters in the industry.
- Spin Master chair and co-founder Anton Rabie said of outgoing CEO Max Rangel, who had been in the role since 2021: “Max has led Spin Master with purpose and a performance focus through a challenging period in our history. Under his leadership we have meaningfully diversified the business, enhanced our supply chain capabilities and improved profitability and free cash flow, all of which have contributed to a stronger company, well-positioned for long-term growth.”
