Les Louves Les Louves

Green-minded artists, pay attention: an animation residency focused on environmental issues is calling for applications. Its second edition will be held next summer. Read on for details.

What is it? As its name suggests, the Sustainability Animation Residency helps animation filmmakers to develop a short film around an environmental subject: anything from energy scarcity to species extinction.

Where is it? In the countryside near Arles, in the south of France. The region is something of a hub of cg education and production.

What does it involve? The winning applicant will spend six weeks developing their project, regularly meeting with industry pros and mentors; accommodation, travel, and expenses are covered. They will pitch the project at Annecy Festival then present it at a special residency screening. The total value of the residency is around €10,000 (USD$11,500).

Who runs it? Schliemann Residency Provence and Miyu Distribution with the collaboration of Do Not Disturb, a collective of animation studios based in the region, and green tech company Qarnot Computing.

What are the dates? Applications are open until November 16. A shortlist of contenders will be announced on December 6 and the winner be revealed on January 12, 2022. The residency runs from May 21 to July 2, 2022.

Who can apply? Anyone who has graduated from a higher-education art, film, or animation school and has completed at least one animated short (student films count). For more information on how to apply, head to the residency’s website.
