Film director and Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter is working on a new book with Chris Merritt, a lead show designer at Walt Disney Imagineering, about the work and art of Marc Davis as a theme park designer.

They discussed the project, currently titled Marc Davis Goes To WED, at length in an interview with Disney fan site Inside the Magic:

When Davis started working at WED (later to become Walt Disney Imagineering) in the 1960’s, he was already established as one of the all-time animation greats, having animated Alice in Alice in Wonderland, Tinker Bell in Peter Pan, Aurora and Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty, and Cruella de Vil in 101 Dalmatians, to name but just a few of his memorable creations.

At WED, Davis played a key role in designing and developing the character animatronics for classic Disneyland attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean, The Haunted Mansion, The Country Bear Jamboree, The Carousel of Progress, and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.

The interview above makes clear that this book will be a valuable historical document and artistic showcase celebrating a terrific artist. Info on the book size and release date aren’t out yet, but we’ll share details as they become available.
