Disney/Lucasfilm Power Up ‘Star Wars Rebels’ Blu-Ray Release
Lucasfilm and Disney’s CGI television series Star Wars Rebels has capably positioned itself atop the canonical foundation laid by its more mature predecessor, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. How well it eventually fits in, when the dust settles, is a galaxy far, far away — for today.
One indication could be the forthcoming DVD and Blu-ray sales figures for Star Wars Rebels: Complete Season One
Under the meticulous watch of creator and executive producer Dave Filoni, supervising director for the equally action-packed The Clone Wars — whose own predecessor, the astounding 2003 microseries Star Wars: Clone Wars, it must always be noted, was directed by Genndy Tartakovksy and, pound for pound, could be the greatest thing Star Wars ever made — Star Wars Rebels is a more youthful launch window into the franchise’s epic of life during (galactic) wartime.
Animation fans should also note that Star Wars Rebels is executive-produced by Greg Weisman, whose Gargoyles remains a cult staple, and Simon Kinberg, producer of X-Men: Days of Future Past. Like The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels is a similarly dazzling example of what sci-fi CGI television can do when its worlds are (literally) limitless.
Its first season 2-disc Blu-ray release offers some technical behind-the-scenes peeks and further bonus features deconstructing how Ezra, Zeb and other characters you have heard of, like Yoda and Lando Calrissian, struggle to keep the Jedi order alive as it is pursued to extinction by The Inquistor.
