Visit The Surreal, Lo-Fi World Of Julian Glander’s ‘Boys Go To Jupiter’ In The Film’s Official Trailer
Fans of American indie animation have something new to get excited about. Julian Glander’s debut feature film Boys Go to Jupiter is set to hit theaters this August, bringing its offbeat, lo-fi charm to audiences in New York on August 8 and Los Angeles on August 15. Producers Cartuna and Irony Point have also released the film’s official trailer, seen below.
The surreal animated coming-of-age comedy will premiere at the IFC Center in New York and Laemmle Glendale, respectively, with a limited expansion to follow.
Produced by Cartuna and Irony Point, the film stars Planet Money host Jack Corbett as Billy 5000, a suburban Florida teen whose plans to earn $5,000 over winter break are derailed by an interstellar visitor. Featuring Glander’s signature colorful 3D style and absurdist humor, the film blends lo-fi musical numbers, deadpan comedy, and sharp satire of hustle culture and the gig economy.
The film’s voice cast includes Cole Escola, Janeane Garofalo, Elsie Fisher, Tavi Gevinson, Julio Torres, Sarah Sherman, Joe Pera, and singer-songwriter Miya Folick, who also contributes an original song as Billy’s crush, Rozebud.
Boys Go to Jupiter was animated entirely in Blender over 90 days. Having debuted at the 2024 Tribeca Festival, the film’s distribution marks a rare theatrical release for an American indie animated film and positions Glander as a filmmaker to keep a keen eye on going forward.
