Want to discover a well-curated selection of new animated shorts on the bigscreen? The long-running Los Angeles Animation Festival (LAAF), founded by John Andrews and Miles Flanagan in 2007, returns this weekend for a full slate of screenings at the Eastwood Performing Art Center in East Hollywood.

Tonight’s opening night screening of films on rare film projections on Super 8 is sold out, but there are eight programs of new animated shorts on Saturday and Sunday.

Additionally, there are two evening programs. Tomorrow evening is a screening of newly-restored Fleischer Studios shorts including Betty Boop, Koko the Clown, Superman and Popeye, interspersed with a panel discussion featuring Dave Wasson (The Cuphead Show!, Mickey Mouse Shorts) Howard Baker (animation director, Piece by Piece), voice actor Billy West, and historian Ray Pointer. On Sunday evening, the festival will conclude with its award ceremony, featuring a live band.

Tickest to individual screenings and daylong passes are available at Eventbrite.
