Top Story: The Turbulent, Messy, And Creatively Radical Production Of Pixar’s New Series ‘Dream Productions’

Yule Log 2.0, the holiday-themed showcase of animation artists and studios, has returned for a fourth edition.

The showcase, conceived by New York-based designer and animation director Daniel Savage, is based on the the original Christmas-themed Yule Log TV show that started airing on New York television station WPIX in 1966 and featured a yule log burning in a fireplace with Christmas music for a couple of hours duration.

You can see a selection of the films below. At www.watchyulelog.com, viewers can watch a stream of over 50 yule log-inspired shorts chosen from nearly 1,000 applications. The jury that chose the animators consisted of Michelle Higa Fox, Justin Cone, and Jorge R. Canedo. The result is a nice cross-section of artists, and a handy reference guide to contemporary visual styles in come.

“We went all out this year in every way, from the website with an archive of past logs, to screening them in malls across America,” Savage told Cartoon Brew.

“It’s great to see the evolution of the individual films when you scroll through the archive on the site, seeing them go from safe, clever interpretations to off-the-wall dystopian robot wars.”

At the Yule Log 2.0 web site, viewers can also donate directly to Camp Interactive to help disadvantaged kids learn about technology and coding.
