Hulu has dropped executive producer, writer, and voice actor Justin Roiland from its animated series Solar Opposites and Koala Man in the wake of domestic violence charges.

“We have ended our association with Justin Roiland,” Hulu and producer 20th Television Animation said in a statement.

The two Disney-owned companies made their decision public one day after it was announced that Warner Bros. Discovery’s Adult Swim had dropped the Rick and Morty co-creator from that show. Roiland also resigned as CEO of High on Life developer Squanch Games, a company he co-founded, on Wednesday.

As is the case at Adult Swim with Rick and Morty, Hulu intends to keep both Solar Opposites and Koala Man going without Roiland. His involvement in all three shows was significant, and there has been no shortage of speculation as to how the series might change without him. Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites, and Koala Man are all produced with Roiland’s production company, Solo Vanity Card Productions.

Roiland co-created the sci-fi family sitcom Solar Opposites with Mike McMahan and, in addition to executive producing and writing for the show, voiced one of its main characters. Season four of the show is scheduled to hit Hulu this year and a fifth season had already been greenlit. So far, no change to that timetable has been announced. Roiland was an executive producer and had a one-episode voice acting appearance on Koala Man, which premiered on January 9 of this year.

Roiland has been charged with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and another felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud, and/or deceit. The alleged incident occurred in January 2020 against an unnamed Jane Doe whom Roiland was dating at the time. Roiland’s attorney maintains that his client is innocent.

Roiland is due back in court for another hearing on April 27. He faces multiple years in prison if found guilty.
