Netflix has dropped the trailer for its upcoming animated series Castlevania: Nocturne.

The show will get an early screening as part of Drop 01, a new virtual showcase hosted by Netflix on September 27, before debuting on the platform worldwide on September 28.

This is the second time that Netflix has gone to the Castlevania well. Its first series, titled Castlevania, pulled off the exceptional feat of getting four seasons from the platform. According to Parrot Analytics, it was the most popular digital original series in the United States when it debuted in July 2017. The show also impressed critics, earning high marks for each of its four seasons.

Here’s what we know about Castlevania: Nocturne:

  • Castlevania: Nocturne is showrun by Kevin Kolde (Castlevania) and Clive Bradley (Trapped). Bradley is the spinoff’s creator and lead writer. Episodes are directed by Sam and Adam Deats, who both worked on the first series. The show is produced by Project 51 Productions and Powerhouse Animation for Netflix.
  • Synopsis: France, 1792 – the height of the French Revolution. In a remote part of western France, the counter-revolutionary aristocracy has forged an alliance with a terrifying Vampire Messiah, who promises to ‘eat the sun’ and unleash an army of vampires and night creatures to crush the revolution and enslave humanity. Annette, a sorceress from the Caribbean, seeks out Richter Belmont, last descendant of the long-fabled family of vampire hunters, to lead the resistance.
  • The show’s voice cast includes Edward Bluemel, Thuso Mbedu, Pixie Davies, Sharon D. Clarke, Richard Dormer, Iain Glen, Sydney James Harcourt, Elarica Johnson, Nastassja Kinski, Zahn McClarnon, Aaron Neil, Franka Potente, and Sophie Skelton.
