International animation studio Zag, makers of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir, has launched a dedicated streaming unit and unveiled its first project.

Fairyon, the studio’s first straight-to-streaming production, was created and is directed by Miraculous art director Nathanaël Bronn. It went into production in May of this year after seven years of development, and Zag will be featuring the show at Mipcom in October.

According to Deadline, which announced the company’s new streaming division, Fairyon is the first series produced by Zag Stream, a unit dedicated to advancing the company’s straight-to-streaming output and headed by senior vp of tv content Maria Doolan. It joins Miraculous and Ghostforce under the studio’s Zag Heroes banner.

Fairyon is described as a reimagining of some of the most famous fairy tale characters from around the world, but with a superhero twist. The series will follow Rapunzel and her colleagues Little Red Riding Hood, Aladdin, Gretel, Cinderella, and Jack (presumably of beanstalk fame) as they fight to stop a mysterious knight from springing a group of terrible villains from a magical mirror in which they’re imprisoned.

The Fairyon creative team includes Sebastien Thibaudeau, head writer of Miraculous; Julien de Carvalho, modeler on Ghostforce; and Miraculous creator Jeremy Zag, who is producing.
