The Venture Bros. The Venture Bros.

The Venture Bros. creator Christopher McCulloch (aka Jackson Publick) announced on Twitter this evening that Adult Swim has canceled his long-running action-adventure series.

McCulloch wrote on Twitter, “Unfortunately, it’s true: #VentureBros has been canceled. We got the highly disappointing news a few months ago, while we were writing what would have been season 8. We thank you, our amazing fans, for 17 years of your kind (and patient) attention. And, as always, We Love You.”

The series ends its run with 81 episodes produced over seven seasons. The visually stylish series, inspired in part by Hanna-Barbera’s Jonny Quest, produced episodes on an uncommonly slow schedule for tv animation, and there were sometimes lengthy waits of over two years between seasons.

News of the cancellation was first revealed on Twitter over the weekend by Ken Plume, author of Go Team Venture!: The Art and Making of The Venture Bros.

UPDATE #2: Adult Swim released the following statement about the cancellation of the series: “We also want more Venture Bros. and have been working with Jackson [Publick] and Doc [Hammer] to find another way to continue the Venture Bros. story.”

The most likely home for a continuation of The Venture Bros. would be HBO Max, the streaming service operated by Adult Swim’s parent company, Warnermedia.

UPDATE: James Urbaniak, the voice of Dr. Venture, has released the following statement about the show’s cancellation:
