Toon Boom Animation has appointed former Corus Entertainment EVP of content and corporate strategy, Colin Bohm, as its new CEO.

This summer, New York-based investment firm Integrated Media Company (IMC) bought Toon Boom Animation for $147.5 million Canadian ($111.4 million USD) from Canadian animation company Nelvana Limited, a subsidiary of Corus Entertainment.

At the time, Corus said it would work closely with IMC to “support a smooth transition.” Bohm’s move to Toon Boom looks like a step in that direction. He was with Corus for more than two decades and most recently oversaw its original content business, including Nelvana, Corus Studios, Aircraft Pictures, Kids Can Press, and previously, Toon Boom.

Based in Montreal, Toon Boom Animation is the developer of Harmony and Storyboard Pro software, two of the most widely used professional animation packages for digital 2d production. The programs, which are particularly dominant in North American productions, are used in the making of countless series, including Lackadaisy, Animaniacs, The Ghost and Molly McGee, and Central Park, as well as features like The Princess and the Frog, The Bob’s Burgers Movie, Disenchanted, and Robot Dreams.

Toon Boom was founded in 1994. Corus purchased a 50% interest in Toon Boom in 2004 and acquired the remaining portion of the company in 2012.

In a release announcing his appointment, Bohm said:

I’ve been fortunate to witness Toon Boom’s growth and impact over the past decade, and it’s a privilege to now lead the company into its exciting next chapter as an independent company. I look forward to partnering closely with the talented Toon Boom team and IMC to provide robust and comprehensive solutions for content creators everywhere.

According to IMC partner Ori Winitzer:

Colin is an exceptional leader and seasoned operator with an invaluable blend of leadership skills, strategic thinking, and deep industry experience. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with Colin and witnessing his significant contributions in the days ahead. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Toon Boom and IMC family.”

Yuning Zhang, who led the transaction for IMC, added:

As we build a world-class platform for content creation and production workflow tools, Colin’s leadership, insight, and decades of experience will be integral to realizing our vision for a broader and more innovative ecosystem. With his guidance, we are confident that the Toon Boom team will continue to thrive.
