Five directors responsible for five of this year’s CG features sat down to discuss their work as part of a roundtable discussion with the LA Times.

The participating directors were Chris Renaud (Despicable Me 2), Chris Sanders (The Croods), Chris Wedge (Epic), Jennifer Lee (Frozen), and Dan Scanlon (Monsters University).

Considering the Chris-heavy theme of the year, the absence of Frozen director Chris Buck is unfortunate. And why was Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 director Kris Pearn excluded? Perhaps one day, in a more understanding society, the Chrises and Krises of the world will unite together to create cg blockbusters.

If you want a summary of what was discussed or simply can’t bear to hear a journalist ask inane questions like, “Why are cute characters important? and “Do you think about the gender of a character when you’re designing it?,” read the interview highlights.
