You’re Invited To A Free ‘In Waves’ Screening, Q&A, And Reception In Los Angeles

Awards season is in full swing, so we’re heading to Los Angeles to get things underway in person. This month, Cartoon Brew is inviting you to a special For Your Consideration screening of Netflix’s animated feature In Waves in Hollywood on Saturday, November 7, followed by a Q&A and a small reception.

Adapted from AJ Dungo’s autobiographical graphic novel, In Waves follows AJ, a shy teenager who loves drawing and skateboarding but is terrified of the ocean, and Kristen, a surfer who introduces him to the sport and helps him overcome his phobia. As the two navigate life as a young couple and their relationship deepens, a sudden illness turns their hopes and dreams upside down. The couple finds strength in their friends, their love for each other, and their shared passion for surfing, as they face an uncertain and sometimes cruel future.

Directed by Phuong Mai Nguyen, the film features the voices of Will Sharpe and Stephanie Hsu and opened this year’s Cannes Critics’ Week, where it was Netflix’s first deal of the French festival.
