Nominations for the 43rd ASIFA-Hollywood Annie Awards were announced Tuesday, and Pixar dominated with a record-breaking 25 nominations, including 14 nominations for Pete Docter’s Inside Out.

An additional 10 Pixar nominations went to The Good Dinosaur, and one for best short to Sanjay’s Super Team. The next closest feature was Minions, which picked up seven nods, although it missed out for best picture.

Here’s a look at the nominee announcement from this morning:oprah_pixar_annies

Even dead Pixar artists were recognized by the Annies this year, with the organization bestowing a Winsor McCay lifetime achievement award to Joe Ranft. It marks the first time the organization has honored a deceased artist with this honor. That’s bad news for animation’s unluckiest living legend Willis Pyle, now 101 years old, who will have to wait one more year before being considered for a lifetime achievement award.

The Annies also introduced a new category this year for independent features that screen in less than 1,000 theaters. “We will now recognize not only features in wide release, but also the independent animators, international studios, anime and special productions that might not otherwise get the attention they deserve,” said ASIFA-Hollywood president (and Cartoon Brew co-founder) Jerry Beck. The nominees for the first year of the award are Boy and the World, Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet, The Boy and the Beast, and When Marnie Was There.

The buzzed-about stop mo film Anomalisa was nominated in the main feature category, so we can assume that Paramount will be releasing the film next year in over 1,000 theaters. The film was nominated for a total of five Annies.

The Annies also recognize television productions and a few other areas of the art form, like videogame animation. On the television side, the stop mo holiday special Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas, produced by Screen Novelties, leads the way with seven nominations. Studio-wise, Disney Television Animation lead with 21 nominations, followed by Nickelodeon with 16 and DreamWorks TV Animation with 14.

Annie Award ballots will be distributed to ASIFA-Hollywood’s voting membership on January 1, and the winners will be announced on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at UCLA’s Royce Hall.

Here is the complete list of nominees. Congrats to all!
