At $20 for a single DVD (the price it’ll sell for), this may be the first Studio Ghibli film that I don’t buy on DVD.

    • Bobby Bickert

Get the Region 0 subtitled version (green background with “ARRIETTY” in English on the front of the case) that’s available through amazon.com’s “third party” sellers and eBay. In addition to being cheaper, you’re getting the original Studio Ghibli version instead of the “Americanized” Disney redub.

“an array of bonus features that will fascinate animation fans

Really ? An “array” of bonus features ?

Well, ok, the Storyboard version of the film, yes that’s always of interest .

But the “original Japanese trailers and TV commercials” are already accessible on YouTube and have been for over a year.

However, is there any animation fan (specifically Ghibli fans) who cares one bit about seeing junk like “The Making Of “Summertime” Behind the Scenes – Bridgit Mendler hosts a look at the making of the music video.” . (this is actually a strike against the disc for me , not something I’d want to watch or hear again , ever)

Also, “the movie’s theme song “Arrietty’s Song” performed by French singer/songwriter Cécile Corbel” , it’s nice, but has been posted on YouTube for a while now. Fans have already seen this stuff .

I’m glad to have the storyboards included , but I would not in any way say that this disc has “an array of bonus features that will fascinate animation fans .

I’m sure there was an extensive Japanese ‘Making Of Arrietty’ documentary (about the actual film, not Disney-channel spin offs) which would have been of much more interest to animation fans.
