First Look At PIXAR’s “La Luna” Short Film

PIXAR has released the synopsis and a still from the upcoming short film La Luna, which will premiere at the Annecy International Animation Festival the first weekend in June.

La Luna is the timeless fable of a young boy who is coming of age in the most peculiar of circumstances. Tonight is the very first time his Papa and Grandpa are taking him to work. In an old wooden boat they row far out to sea, and with no land in sight, they stop and wait.  A big surprise awaits the little boy as he discovers his family’s most unusual line of work. Should he follow the example of his Papa, or his Grandpa? Will he be able to find his own way in the midst of their conflicting opinions and timeworn traditions?

Long-time PIXAR staffer Enrico Casarosa is serving as both director and Head of Story, and previously worked on Cars, Ratatouille and Up.

I’m excited to see that Tim Lockwood is appearing in other animated films, reprising his previous role as a father in Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. I love Tim’s design and I’m glad it is being used again! This time by the great and mighty Pixar! It’s going to be awesome!

Sounds awesome!! Go Enrico! I am big fan of your work and style!

Not to piggyback here, but I completely second that statement!

Well, it’s good to know the father from Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is still getting work :D

    • David

Yeah, he used to be the burly fight-scene guy in every Studio Ghibli production, but that was in the hand-drawn days and it was getting hard for 2D guys like him to find steady work . He’s working a lot more now that he got his CG work done by a top Hollywood surgeon. (looks good , you can’t see the surgery scars at all)

    Sincerest form of flattery.

Tim Lockwood was definitely my first thought there. Still, it was a great character design, so if you’re going to steal, steal from the best.

Michael Giacchino did the music last month, after the ‘Cars 2 ‘ scoring sessions:

Enrico is such a talented individual. His Web-comic ‘Haiku 5-7-5′ (no longer online http://www.cartoonbrew.com/old-brew/gangster-haiku.html ) is one of the things that inspired me to strive in the art of story-telling and naturally one of my favorite web-comics of all-time.
I am very excited that he’s given full handle on a Pixar short film, and I am positive it will lead into even bigger things.
    Go Enrico, indeed.

This is great news, Enrico is not only a great talent but also has pushed an amazing movement with the Sketchcrawls. I hope this is the beginning of something special…

How dare you all accuse studios of copying each others work. The two characters are COMPLETELY different.

    This one has a hat.

This should be great. Enrico is a master story teller.
