Glad to see “Truckers” is getting some love - read the books back when they optioned them, and they could make for an interesting action-adventure film.

I don’t get the William Joyce fascination at animation studios.

Actually, 3 years (2010, 2011, 2012). And some of these films sound pretty interesting… here’s hoping for some more KFP-style successes.

Notice they’re not planning anything after 2012. bum, bum, BUM. JK. Seriously though does anyone else think there are way too many Shreks and Madagascar films? I mean the next Shrek is all a big What-if scenario. Which I can pretty much guarantee will end up pulling a huge Dynasty in the end. “How to Train Your Dragon” sounds like a great film but then I remember it’s a Dreamworks film.

Oh, I can just see more sequels in the near future: Shrek and Robin, Shrek Begins, The Dark Ogre…

I’m especially looking forward to How to Train Your Dragon, I’m a big fan of Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois since Lilo & Stitch!!!

Looking forward to Chris Sanders films and the Panda sequel. How will the new director handle the pressure of a sequel? :)

Back in 2006, there were news stories going around that Dreamworks had a CGI remake of Jay Ward’s “Peabody & Sherman” (directed by Rob Minkoff) in the pipeline? I don’t think we heard anything since. Is this project dead?

The title for the Shrek movie is actually “Shrek Forever After” according to Variety (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118004228.html?categoryid=18&cs=1).

The ones that sound interesting to me are Oobermind and The Guardians.

And Shrek Forever is a weird title. But I guess they still need the “four” sound.

I wonder if there’ll be a fifth…

Shrek Forever… well, Shrek may go on forever, but it’s certainly worn out its welcome. An army of interchangeable secondary characters, and one sidekick too many. We’re deep in Jaws territory now.

This information is great for our economy (*it employs artists) but i’m personally not a fan of Dreamworks so these dates don’t mean anything to me.

Any studio that can get away with Shrek-like designs, is a little sketchy.

But hey, if theres merchandise and money to be had..

Quantity vs Quality

Both Shrek the Third and Shrek Goes Forth sounded similar to “Blackadder The Third” and “Blackadder Goes Forth.”

Unfortunately, calling it “Shrek Forever” sounds like a corporate Freudian slip about extending the franchise beyond its breaking point.

I’m looking forward to a new Dean DuBois film! His work on Lilo and Stitch was amazing.

There’s still hope JK might resurrect “Oink-lahoma” in turnaround from Disney for 2013.

Some of these titles make me laugh. Others make me retch.

I like how some of you are referencing Batman Forever and doing a compare to Shrek. That gives me some funny visuals in my head to mentally chew on, including a possible ogre-tastic parody of Seal’s Kiss From a Rose music video, with a Fiona stand-in for Kidman’s character. And Shrek obviously leaping off of a gargoyle-ified likeness of himself to spread his cape and land safely (hilariously) on the ground below.

Yes, DreamWorks can cop the above suggestions without fear of a lawsuit from me, or (I hope) any of us commenters who in turn provoked the above speculation.

Looking forward to Oobermind, I tell ya. That looks like it could turn into something big, with the focus apparently placed on the villain and not the hero.

Is that one of those initially proposed then dumped projects, Al? What is it about? And when you say Disney, do you mean Pixar or Walt Disney Animation Studios?

I’d be more excited if at least ONE of these films were traditionally animated (I’m just an old purist, that’s all)

You know, Dreamworks has proven it can make a decent movie stand on its own. Do you think someday Jeffrey will be okay with having a success without milking it with 20 sequals?

“Oinklahoma” was in development during production of “Oliver and Co”. Once “The Little Mermaid” began taking shape, JK and others at Disney realized that maybe more projects like “Oliver” were not the way to go. The true silver age Disney stuff began with the arrival of Ashman and Mencken.

I’m gonna hate the year 2012, just hearing that the Madagascar sequel is coming out on my birthday is a sin. Not too mention that both it and I are the third. Totally ridiculous. The only good concept I am willing to really see is Oobermind, other than that, I can’t say I’m excited to see the other stuff from DreamWorks. I still can’t get over the fact that Jeffrey puts money over a good storyline when he does sequels…or when he’s looking to make one after an original gets that money.

How anyone can sell this stuff with a straight face after the one two punch of Wall-E and Up and perhaps the third of Princess and Frog is simply mind boggling.

Hmm. First of all, wouldn’t it be “Übermind”? I guess Hukked on Foniks worked for them! Also, I wonder if Joss Whedon knew that there was an animated sequel to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog in the works? I’m just saying.

I’m always willing to give Chris Sanders a try. He’s an interesting director.

Other than his films, though, everything sounds safe and bland. I know Mike Myers needs the money after The Love Guru, but can Dreamworks please stop with the Shrek films? The first two were at least enjoyable fluff, but the last one was unwatchable. Kung Fu Panda was far better than it had a right to be, but I think it was because it truly paid homage to the genre of films it was spoofing. There were people behind that film that had an obvious love for Kung Fu movies. If the sequel doesn’t have the same kind of care put into it, then it will be a waste. I’ll remain cautiously-optimistic.

I think I’m just frustrated that Dreamworks has some very talented people working for them but seem to be shackled by strict formulas. It’s the same thing I see at Disney. There are moments where you can tell that there are creative artists behind the scenes, but those moments poke their heads out and then quickly retreat back to the safety of focus-tested mediocrity. Pixar is the only mainstream animation studio today that has been able to strike the right balance of pushing boundaries whilst remaining accessible to a broad audience. It *can* be done, but chances have to be taken. I’m not saying that there will never be failures, but I firmly believe that most of Pixar’s films will still be watched and loved decades from now. These “safe” may initially make money, but will have no shelf life. An investment in quality now can lead to financial returns almost indefinitely.

Hooray for Truckers movie, that’s a dandy book. And hooray for Chris Sanders involvement. Boo to more Madagascar and Shrek sequels, meh to a Kung-Fu Panda sequel (it’s good but I’m not sure many of the surviving characters are interesting enough to warrant a return outing, especially if they insist on bringing back the furious fighting five + however many other under-developed celebrity voiced characters they can shoehorn in to drag the picture down.)

Little disappointed there’s no plans for a MvA sequel. I really think they could get it right a second time with the art-style, characters and voice cast they had; lots of franchises have ropey starts, I think this one deserves another chance.

Oobermind sounds like it’ll be to The Incredibles what Shark Tale was to Finding Nemo (ie. not a threat)

I love Truckers, but I don’t think Dreamworks should ruin Pratchett. Spare me.

DW has prooven they can give quality and quantity.. KFP and Sequels… and it’s sad that after talking so bad about them.. mostly from Pixar and Disney side… Jhon Lasseter now wants to copy DW producing a lot of disney gimmick films.. and now opening a studio in vancouver for ‘direct to DVD’ movies, ads, more ‘Cars-toons’.. ugh! he realised that DW is probably is the second in quality or stories in their movies BUT in the top of the business… Mad2 made a fortune compared to Wall-e and I was also blown away… cuz i liked Wall-e better than Mad2.. but still I was entertained by the sequel..
