“Slimtime” from Supinfocom Arles

With style to spare, Slimtime, a 2010 graduation film by four students at Supinfocom Arles, the CG animation school based in the south of France, is charming treat. Directors Bertrand Avril, Pierre Chomarat, David Dangin and Thea Matland were influenced by the films 2001 A Space Odyssey, Playtime by Jacques Tati, and Space Age fashion designer Andre Courrège.

Lesson learned: Do not take communion at the alter of the sacred cupcake. Delightful, yet disturbing imagery of the Stepford attendants administering a bodywrap à la Willy Wonka.

Wonderful film very Tati-esque , but with its own unique style. Its short’s like this that give 3D animation a good name.

I was caught surprised by the use of inflation in the short via cupcakes. But it could’ve also made the women fatter :P.

I couldn’t be more impressed. I’ll have to spend some time reviewing this.

This is as slick as any Pixar short. It will remind most people of the second half of WALL-E but it owes as much to “Playtime” for its inspiration. Very well executed.

Personally I think it’s sweet that the hubby doesn’t bat an eye when the wife returns unchanged.
