“The Saga Of Biorn”

This is a pretty good student film that I somehow missed last year. It was the 2011 Bachelor film project from Denmark’s The Animation Workshop. I love its design, color art direction and its funny storyline – and I’m happy to have a chance to post it here.

The Saga of Biorn was made by Benjamin J. Kousholt, Daniel D. Christensen, Mads Lundgaard Christensen, Jesper A. Jensen, Jonas K. Doctor, Steffen Lyhne, Pernille Ørum-Nielsen, Frederik Bjerre-Poulsen, Jonas Georgakakis.

(Thanks, Chloe Booher)

Bjorn is great. We were lucky enough to work with some of his creators here in cartoon saloon over the past year.

<3 I was lucky enough to work with Cartoon Saloon and you Tomm.

This is great in so many ways. I was lucky enough to work alongside Daniel last year and the lad is sharp as a tack, draws like a good un and has a great haircut. Expect big things from this gaggle of witty skillful Danes.

    • Daniel Dion Christensen

Thanks Mick the good stick! Means a lot :)… Btw my hair is actually more awesome now?

This is one of the best films out of the animation workshop by far. The Saga Of Biorn made us headhunt the 3D artist Jonas Georgakakis to work with us at SYBO Games witch have resulted in a little known game called Subway Surfers for IOS and Android.

Not to undervalue the talented creators of this piece, but The Animation Workshop under Morten Thorning and Michelle Nardone is fast becoming one of the greatest animation schools in the world. Godt gået!

  • Mike Scott

    That is lovely.

  • Greg Sharp

HA HA the best ending ever! Ha ha those greedy christians grabbing all the souls!

  • Grayden

Loved it! The textures and character design were excellent. All rolled in with a great story.

  • Glowworm

I was drawn in the moment the narrator stated ” Some may ask who is this viking? And what made him throw a dwarf off a cliff?”
    A very creative concept.

  • Stephen

    Great fun.

  • Nick

Wow, that was a great blending of 3D with 2D environments. I hope we see more stuff like this.

  • Ken Mora

Nicely done! Great nuance in action and reaction.

  • Doug Vitarelli

    i feel sad for biorn.
