peanuts-normaal-series

It was announced last year that Angoulême, France-based Normaal Animation would produced 500 90-second animated shorts based on Charles Schulz’s Peanuts.

At the time, it was unclear whether the new cartoons would be animated traditionally or CGI, however, the answer to that question has been confirmed after a few of the shorts appeared online. Turns out that it’s 2D digital puppeting. The video above shows a French episode, while the bottom video (low-quality due to being filmed at a conference) displays the English version.

The series will premiere November 9 on France 3’s Ludo block, and will soon debut on Italian broadcaster Rai. They’ll continue to roll out internationally throughout 2015, tied in with the 65th anniversary of the comic’s debut. Deals are currently in the works to air the shorts in Japan, China, Brazil, Germany, and Latin America, according to C21 Media.
