Reworked ‘Dragon Ball Super’ Opening Arc Sets October Premiere, Drops New Trailer

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, Toei Animation’s extensively reworked version of the anime’s opening arc, will premiere in Japan on October 11, with streaming also set to begin that month.

The date was announced alongside a new “Super Surge” trailer featuring previously unseen footage and new characters that appear to expand the original storyline.

Announced earlier this year, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus revisits the story that opened the original Dragon Ball Super television series in 2015. Several years after Majin Buu’s defeat, the newly awakened God of Destruction Beerus learns that a Saiyan defeated Frieza and sets out to find Goku.

Toei describes the production as an “enhanced edition” featuring a reconstructed narrative and numerous newly animated and redrawn shots. The studio says the overhaul will deliver more immersive battle sequences and more faithfully represent Akira Toriyama’s original manga.

Matsuto Seya handles composition and direction. Longtime Dragon Ball artist Tadayoshi Yamamuro serves as animation character designer and general animation director, with editing by Eichi Nishimura, compositing direction by Yosuke Motoki, and music by Norihito Sumitomo. Toriyama is credited with the original work, story, and character designs.

The first episode will premiere at New York Comic Con on October 8. The panel will feature English-language Beerus actor Jason Douglas and Whis actor Ian Sinclair, with Bulma voice actor Monica Rial hosting. An international streaming date and platforms have not yet been announced.
