‘Ne Zha 2’ Breaks Decade-Long Box Office Record Held By ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’
Chinese animated sensation Ne Zha 2 continues to topple global box office records at a dizzying pace.
Most recently, the film bulldozed its way through a nearly decade-long record held by the U.S. release of Disney’s Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing film of all-time in a single market.
Ne Zha 2 achieved the record in only its 11th day of release, when it grossed $84 million to lift its overall total to $991.7 million. The Force Awakens ended its U.S. run with $936.7 million.
This won’t be the last record that Ne Zha 2 breaks. Just look at the film’s stunning trajectory below, compared to other top-grossing releases in China. Box office tracking firm Maoyan has been continually revising its forecasts upwards and now projects a towering $1.48 billion as the final tally.
