A full 24 years after joining Pixar, Guido Quaroni is leaving the studio to join Adobe. He has been named senior director of engineering on the software titan’s 3d and immersive team.
Joining Pixar in 1997, Quaroni worked his way up to become supervising technical director on Toy Story 3 and Monsters, Inc. He oversaw the technological approach on Toy Story 3, establishing the production pipeline and managing the technical teams. His work on the film earned him nominations for a Bafta and Visual Effects Society award.
Quaroni was named Pixar’s vp of software r&d in 2011. In this capacity, he oversaw the studio’s graphics and animation software, including the Universal Scene Description (USD) Open Source project and the proprietary animation software Presto (which was honored at the Oscars’ Scientific and Technical Awards). He has also voiced several Pixar characters, including the Italian forklift Guido in the Cars franchise.
