WIA (formerly Women in Animation) has appointed industry veteran Hayley Porter as its first-ever executive director, marking a major leadership milestone for the global nonprofit as it expands its international footprint.

Porter brings more than 25 years of experience across animation and entertainment, with senior leadership, consulting, and advisory roles spanning studios including Aardman, Locksmith Animation, Baobab Studios, and Sunrise Productions. She has also led international marketing and PR campaigns and advised executive teams on strategic partnerships and growth. Most recently, she was part of the campaign team behind the Oscar-winning short War is Over! Inspired by the Music of John & Yoko.

In her new role, Porter will oversee WIA’s global programs and initiatives, working closely with the board and executive committees on governance and long-term strategy. A longtime contributor to WIA’s PR and fundraising committee, she will now focus on expanding the organization’s international presence, strengthening industry partnerships, growing membership, and advancing fundraising and stakeholder engagement.

In a release, WIA president Marge Dean wrote:

We’re thrilled to bring Hayley on board. We look forward to the vision, leadership and international perspective she brings. Her dedication and commitment to gender equity within the animation, VFX and gaming fields are an asset and will be critical in amplifying our efforts globally.

For her part, Porter said:

Supporting women and non-binary creators has always been central to my work throughout my career. As the industry continues to navigate significant challenges and rapid change, my focus is on building upon and strengthening WIA’s foundation while accelerating our international and membership growth.

Porter’s appointment underscores WIA’s broader push to strengthen its worldwide infrastructure, build global partnerships, and ensure long-term sustainability as it positions itself for greater impact across animation, VFX, and gaming.
