Disney Greenlights Third ‘Phineas And Ferb’ Streaming, TV Film
Following the success of its recent Phineas and Ferb revival, Disney is heading back to the well for a third franchise feature now in development.
According to Variety, Disney Branded Television has greenlit the project, which is slated to go into production later this year and debut on Disney+ and Disney Channel. The film continues the franchise’s strategy of treating streaming and traditional television as complementary platforms rather than competitors, see last week’s release of Hey A.J.!.
Creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh are reportedly returning to steer the new installment, unsurprising given their roles in the series reboot. The duo’s next story will turn on a time-warp premise that puts the very foundation of the series at risk. When one of Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s experiments disrupts the past, the timeline is altered so dramatically that Phineas and Ferb never become brothers, threatening their peanut-butter-and-chocolate, sum-of-two-parts dynamic that fuels the show.
Much of the original voice cast is set to return, including Vincent Martella, David Errigo Jr., Ashley Tisdale, Dee Bradley Baker, and the creators themselves in their long-running roles. The creative team behind the scenes also draws heavily from franchise veterans, with Bob Bowen directing and Brandi Young producing, alongside additional writers who have previously contributed to the series.
This third movie follows two earlier television features that performed strongly for Disney, including Across the 2nd Dimension and Candace Against the Universe, the latter of which became one of Disney+’s earliest streaming hits.
