Paramount has significantly delayed the release of two of its animated features.

Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation’s The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender was originally set to release January 30, 2026, but has now been pushed back to October 9, 2026. The hybrid film, based on the contemporary classic Avatar: The Last Airbender, will combine 2d and cg elements. It is directed by Lauren Montgomery, co-directed by William Mata, and includes the involvement of Korea’s Studio Mir, which worked on The Legend of Korra. (Mir was founded by Jae-Myung Yu, who was an animation director on the original Avatar series.)

Meanwhile, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2 which previously owned the October 2026 date now occupied by Aang has been shoved to September 17, 2027. The film, a sequel to the 2023 movie, is directed by Jeff Rowe, Yashar Kassai, and Kyler Spears.

The reason for these significant setbacks isn’t known though Deadline attributes it to “delays in animated physical production.”

Paramount is also moving up the release of Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie by one week, from July 31, 2026, to July 24.

The Paw Patrol film will become Paramount’s first fully-animated release in nearly two years, following Transformers One which came out in September 2024. This year, Paramount isn’t releasing any fully-animated features, though it will release two hybrids: Smurfs in July and The Spongebob Movie: Search for Squarepants in December.
