Spark Animation 2022 Spark Animation 2022

Vancouver’s Spark Computer Graphics Society has revealed the official lineup for the 2022 Spark Animation festival, taking place in-person from October 27-30 and online October 30 through November 30.

The in-person portion of the festival will kick off with the first Canadian screening of Nora Twomey’s My Father’s Dragon, with the filmmaker in attendance for a post-screening Q&A. That same evening, Henry Selick’s Wendell & Wild, which recently premiered at Toronto, will screen on Canada’s west coast for the first time. Selick will also be present for an in-person Q&A after the screening.

Spark 2022 will also host the world premiere of HaZ Dulull’s animated feature RIFT, animated using the Unreal Engine. Dulull and the film’s producer Paula Crickard will be in attendance to speak with the audience following the screening.

Signe Baumane won’t be in Vancouver, but will be tuning in via Zoom for an audience Q&A about her latest feature My Love Affair with Marriage, which premiered this summer at Tribeca and won a jury distinction at Annecy.

An impressive lineup of big names from the world of animation will be participating in various talks throughout this year’s Spark Animation, including Genndy Tartakovsky (Primal), Peggy Holmes (Luck), Joey Clift (writer New Looney Tunes), Karissa Valencia (Spirit Rangers), and Chris Williams (The Sea Beast).

Spark CG Society president Mariana Antunes is ready to host attendees in Vancouver once again, and said:

We’re so excited to be welcoming attendees back in-person for the first time since we became an Oscar-accredited festival. The folks at Spark CG Society, along with our network of industry leaders, are thrilled to have the opportunity to reconnect face-to-face through Spark Animation’s online and in-person festivals and conferences, and our career fair.

Tickets for this year’s Spark Animation are available on the Spark CG Society’s website.
