Babylon 5 Babylon 5

Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski confirmed today that his sci-fi classic franchise will be back in a new animated feature film from Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment.

Here’s what we know about the film so far.

  • The Babylon 5 animated movie is already “finished and in the can” according to Straczynski, who says that it will be coming out very soon although no specific date has been announced just yet.
  • No plot details for the film have been released yet, but in his tweet, Straczynski promised: “Classic B5: raucous, heartfelt, nonstop, a ton of fun through time and space & a love letter to the fans.”
  • The film’s title, release date, and more details will be released next Wednesday.
  • The original Babylon 5 was produced by Warner Bros. Television and ran for five seasons, totaling 110 episodes and seven TV films. The show is considered one of the greatest science fiction series by fans and many critics and won numerous awards throughout its run, including two Emmys, two Hugo Awards, and a Saturn Award.
  • In 2021, a Babylon 5 reboot was announced at the CW, but there have been no updates on the project since. How this project may be related to a live-action series reboot is unclear.
